Landing in Dublin from the USA: Your Step-by-Step Arrival Guide

Flights from the USA usually land in the morning, after a night in the air. By the time you reach the arrivals hall you want one thing: a smooth start. This guide walks through what happens after landing and how to make it as easy as possible.

Before you fly: share your flight number

When you book a transfer, give us your flight number. We monitor the arrival time, so if the flight is early or delayed the pick-up adjusts without you having to call or message anyone. If your plans change, contact us as soon as possible.

After landing: passport control and luggage

You will go through passport control, collect your bags and then walk into the arrivals hall. Allow time for this, especially if several large flights land together. Your chauffeur waits for you rather than the other way round, so there is no need to rush.

Meeting your chauffeur

Your chauffeur meets you inside the arrivals hall with a name sign, helps with luggage where possible and guides you to the vehicle. Our guide to Dublin Airport meet & greet explains the process in more detail, including what to have ready.

Early arrival and jet lag

  • Hotels often cannot give you a room until the afternoon. Ask whether they can store your bags or check you in early.
  • If you are tired, go straight to the hotel and rest. A short walk outdoors in daylight helps your body clock adjust.
  • Do not plan a long drive on your first day. A private chauffeur lets you sleep in the car, but your first afternoon is best kept simple.

Where are you going next?

If you are staying in Dublin, a private ride to the city is quick. See Dublin Airport to the city centre for prices. If you are heading straight to another county, a direct transfer saves you from driving on the left while jet-lagged. Popular routes are Galway, Cork, Killarney, Dingle and Kilkenny. Castle stays are also popular, for example Dromoland Castle and Ashford Castle.

Long journeys: what to know

Long drives are comfortable in a private vehicle with Wi-Fi, bottled water and a professional driver. Our guide to long distance private transfers explains stops, luggage and timing. You can also see our long distance transfers from Dublin Airport.
